A human Buffy wakes up in a mental hospital after her dive off Glory's tower. She recovers her sanity and begins to build a life in the real world. But is it real?

AN: To provide a little more explanation and warning than might be visible in the summary. This grew out of a "what if" discussion on someone's LJ, in which it was asked "What if Buffy's sojourn in the mental hospital during Normal again didn't end?" or "What if it was real?" and some other possible scenarios. I was intrigued and this story was born. I'll be posting a chapter a day until this site has caught up with TSR and my Live Journal.

Ok, here’s the sitch. It’s early in a Season V that has been tweaked to suit my purposes. Spike hasn’t had his little revelation about his feelings for Buffy, and she, of course, is clueless. Riley has had his surgery and begun his macho identity crisis. Joyce and Dawn won’t be mentioned because they aren’t part of this story. Riley has gone back to Iowa for an extended leave, partly to recover from his surgery and partly to figure out what he wants to do next. He was apprehensive about being gone from Buffy for so long, and not at all reassured when she tells him she will take Spike with her for extra muscle if he’s so worried about her. He reminds her of her words to him before he lost the enhancements that were killing him, when she told him that if she “wanted somebody with super powers, I’d be dating Spike!” She rolls her eyes at his implication and they do not part on the best of terms. Many thanks to Oracle Holly for her read overs and suggestions as I struggled with how to get the story going. *hugs* Holly. And to Always_jbj whose fic gave me the way to get Buffy out of the hole I was digging for her.Disclaimer: Joss never hired me, so obviously all the characters still belong to him. Some not terribly original plot concepts, including some I’ve used before, but hopefully an original take on those ideas. Buffy has come to LA to find amnesiatic Spike who is apparently the only survivor of the battle with the Senior Partners’ demon army. Disclaimer: The characters belong to Joss Wheedon and probably some big, scary corporations. Alas, they aren’t mine. But I play with them, ‘cause the man said we could.

In response to Challenge #10 at the Bloodshedverse. Criteria were: Spike and Buffy trapped in amusement park; Spike feeds Buffy cotton candy; they go on either the Tunnel of Love or the Haunted House; they are chased onto the roller coaster by clowns; Buffy is afraid of roller coasters; there are mirrors involved somehow. I believe those are all the “must haves”. This is the first time I’ve done a challenge fic and it’s a little thin on plot, but hey, I wrote it in two days so waddaya want? Since it’s a Bloodshedverse challenge, I also made it a little bitey and a little smutty. Let me know what you think! (TOTALLY non-canon!) 4 chapters in total.
