Being short and blond, this short really resonated with me. I'd read it months ago but it was good the second time around. Thanks!

Lovely! made me laugh :-)
Thanks! It was nice to inject a little bit of humor into my work. Things can get so darn serious and angsty for me.

lovely birthday present. lovely read, thank you.
I'm glad you liked it! Louise seemed to be quite pleased with her herself. =)

that was wonderful.  the part where he's holding her up and she's staring at him.  when he breaks eye contact, I can so see him doing that.  you captured just a snapshot of their lives and it was perfect.
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. The bit where they're looking at each other was meant to be a nod to the scene in  "Bargaining Part II" when Buffy comese down the stairs and he's staring at her in awe, and she's staring back until he breaks eye contact with her.

Making a story like this just out of changing a light job was brilliant, I liked the analogy and how she compares herself to the burnt out light bulb - sad but humorous. Is it reading too much in to it to think that in this line "tossed the burnt out bulb to Spike, who carefully turned it over in his hands before setting it onto the counter." it shows how 'carefully' Spike is there for burnt out buffy?
Thanks for reading. I was impressed I was able to come up with the concept and analogy so quickly myself. From the time I was given the prompt to when I actually posted the fic was only an hour. It's probably the fastest I've written something of this length. And I write slowly. And you're not reading too much into that line at all. That's exactly what it was meant to imply. Kudos to you for being the first person in comments to mention that!

’S a bit safer this way, innit? Got a spotter now

Oh, Cat, this was wonderful.  It was lighthearted, but it wasn't all fluff.  I love the metaphor of the ladder and the lightbulb and Spike helping to steady Buffy.  She's all in the dark about life, teetering and falling, and he's not only there to catch her, but to keep her safe while she figures how to get her life (and the lightbulb) back on track.  He knows she can do it with a little support, and together, they bring the light back.
IB - I know I've said this more than once, but I just want to kiss you. You get what I write. I've gotten a good amount of f/b on LJ and it was only Eowyn (of course) that mentioned the deeper metaphor running through this seemingly surfacey, lighthearted fic. Thank you for seeing my underlying message. It does a writer's heart good. Let me write something for you, a ficlet maybe. Drop me a line on LJ with a pairing and a prompt and I'll see what I can do with it.

Very cute!  And too true.  I hate ladders.  Had to run around early one morning to take the batteries out of all the smoke detectors in the house (a short) and now the dog is deathly afraid of ladders!
Glad you enjoyed it. When I was coming up with the concept for this fic, I did consider a scene where Spike and Buffy kiss under a ladder to tie into the idea of "seven years bad luck" as foreshadowing for their relationship later on, but I ultimately decided that they were both too tall to effectively squeeze beneath one comfortably.

Hehe! Great little story. Loved the ass-staring line- nice and relaxed Spuffy.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed their dynamic. They're burgeoning friendship was sweet at the beginning of the season. Too bad it took such a turn for the worst. As for the ass-staring line, you know he totally was checking her out.
