Excellent chapter, I much prefer it to the try to bite girl scenario.

Of course Spike's going to do something stupid, he's Spike. Like the different way that Spike confirmed that the chip still worked. You do a fabulous job at showing most of the plot through Riley's eyes. Great chapter.

Oh dear...that would have been good advice actually!  I almost feel sorry for Riley being conflicted with still wanting Buffy yet realizing he will never have her that way again (and noting that Spike does actually love her and there is something there).

Good look at Riley's thought process and a glimpse of that scene between Spike and Buffy.  Oh my....going to get interesting now!

Glad you had a chance to update but don't worry about timing....we will read whenever you get the chance to write.  RL has a habit of doing things like delaying good fic LOL.
