You know it is funny how much Spike did start to brood... hell, "Lover's Walk" was all brood. It's very ironic. I'm worried about Molly - getting bad vibes.

Oh please please please, don't let him do anything so stupid as to get a soul. Spike isn't so emotionally distraught and self-hating that he would overlook the quite elementary facts that,

1) he would be a different person with the soul
2) Buffy loves HIM and not this other person

Additionally, even pure vampire Spike is capable of realizing that there are limits to love. Witness his giving up on Drusilla after the Chaos demon.
