Spike and cooking

For future fics that will involve Spike, I have one question; is Spike a good cook?

Almost all fics I read had Spike pulling a Monica Geller, so I'm wondering if it's seen in canon (including After the Fall comics). If it's not in canon, then why do you think it's famous among writers? Does it have to do with Spike being a mama's boy, learning how to cook from his mother?

I think it's purely down to "fantasy men cook, too". Anne wouldn't have cooked - they had servants for that. Spike only would have learned because it was a way to get food he liked, or just over the summer to help Dawn. Probably saw a few cooking shows on PBS during those hours stuck inside.

Why would he?  He can always bite or steal whatever he wants.  On the other hand, Spike is an interesting guy and he has a lot of interests, unlike dumb butt Buffy.

On a related note, Fanon Buffy is frequently shown to be a bad cook (mea culpa here), but in fact, she makes a nice breakfast for her mom when Joyce comes home from the hospital and she makes that faboo Thanksgiving dinner, admittedly with a lot of drama queeness.  Not to mention all those skills that she picked up at the DoubleMeat Palace.  She apologizes to Dawn for not making any real meals, which implies that if necessary she could wield that spatula.
If we want her to be exactly she'll never be exactly I know the only really real Buffy is really Buffy and she's gone' who?

I'd say realistically he wasn't.  At least not in a particularly good sense for a human.  There was always indication that Spike experimented with the pig sludge to make it taste better--adding burba weed, whetabix, or otter blood, apparently.

Though he may think he isn't, he is a quick study, and I agree with Caro that perhaps he watched a few food shows on PBS and took down some mental notes.

My own fanwank is that if he had a chef to look up to, it'd so be Bobby Flay if he had cable, but more than likely enjoying the show "Yan Can Cook," cause he was hell on wheels with a knife.
