BSV Forum - General - The Bloodshedpub Demons Dec 31 2006 10:48 pm #1The Space Between Meh ok, all day today I've been trying to name two of the demons I've created and I can't come up with a name that makes me happy so I'm gonna bug all of you. I'll describe them with their strengths/abilities and we'll see what names you guys can come up with. 1). Tall humanoid - more of an evolved human rather than demon - male avg height is about 6'6" while female avg is about 6'0" - can actually pass for human with a bit of camoflage/makeup. Males are muscular while females tend to be waifish. Here's the thing that sets them apart from humans: scales. The males tend to have darker blue/ turquoise/purplish scales whereas the females tend to be lighter blue/green/aqua (think mermaid tails). Their head is covered but thanks to hair you really only see them around the hairline and a down a bit onto the forehead and around the ears, along the back of the neck and shoulders and down the spine as well as along the hip bones. Little to no body hair other than the head/eyebrows/eyelashes. They are highly intelligent (often tested at genius levels) with photographic memories and are philosophical and despite their size, they are incredibly lithe and acrobatic as well as being much stronger than human. Crack'em open and they are pretty much just like us except for having 2 hearts and 2 livers and their lungs are quite a bit larger as well giving them the ability to hold their breath for long periods of time. Their skin is pretty regenerative...if they are cut, most often they do not scar and they heal pretty quickly. If its any kind of puncture, then they're pretty much like regular humans as far as recovery goes. They have a cooler body temp than regular humans - 80/85 versus 95/99 as their scales help to keep them cool. Blue-blooded (literally). They were hunted because their blood contains the properties that bestows their strengths/abilities on whomever consumes it but can also cause hallucinations & insanity and epilleptic-like seizures. They are non-confrontational preferring to use their brain instead of brawn but they will if they have no other choice. They have a lifespan in terms of biblical humans, not uncommon to live to the age of 200.
Ooook and now for the second one: 2). Another humanoid - kinda lizardy but without scales - avg height 5'0"ish - lean/wiry not very strong but very fast. their saliva is toxic - can cause blindness if flung into the eyes or if bitten, it breaks down the body's ability to regenerate new blood cells so you pretty much die slowly with lots of internal bleeding. Completely hairless due to albinism and because they are albinos, they tend to be more nocturnal. Foreheads are low without the heavy-brow ridge and their noses are stubbed like they were punched in it too hard and it stayed that way (much like a pug) they can unhinge their jaws and have two rows of needle-like teeth. Their eyes are lizard-like...small & beady and they have large ruffs of skin that lay back (from just above their ears down to their shoulders so when they are startled or trying to scare an enemy, the skin stands up like a fan on either side of its head (like a frilled lizard) and their skin also tends to feel cool and moist...also hard to physically differentiate males from females as they are built much the same average lifespan about 20/30 years. So there you go. HEEEELP! ^^ Let's see what kind of names you guys can come up with. 1 Dec 31 2006 11:09 pm #2Blood Faerie Ack! Woman, use another colour; I'm blinded by the yellow! *claps hands over her eyes* I'd help you if I could read it. 1 Dec 31 2006 11:10 pm #3Guest Oooooh. Sorry, but I eat up this stuff. On to the pseudoscience!!!
For number 2... Well, the scientific name for the genus of spitting cobras is Naja. Najarans? Najae?
And number 1... This one was a fun word game. Two hearts in Japanese is something like Ni Shin (I think). What about Nishin? Nishin is also the name of a kind of fish. Scientific name? Strangomera bentincki. You said mermaidish (the mer)? How about Mera or Merae?
I iz a dork. Dec 31 2006 11:34 pm #5The Space Between For number 2... Well, the scientific name for the genus of spitting cobras is Naja. Najarans? Najae? Ooooh! I like Najarans!! Oh and I forgot to mention that 'demon' #1...the lineage starts in Greece/Italy way back in the days of Odysseus and the Trojan War etc. Their creation is something out of a Homer classic where mermaids and human/animal people was a regular thing as well as gods and goddesses and various other beings. I'm thinking of having an Oceanid (Water mymph) having mated with a demi-god kind of thing...not sure how I'm gonna make it come about yet as its not really that imperative to the story :)
Oh and sorry about the colours. For some reason the text was black when it posted so I tried to change it to a light beige (that is what it looked like on my screen) so I really didn't mean to blind you GB. I changed it to a greyish colour so hopefully it wont be crazy 1 Dec 31 2006 11:39 pm #6Blood Faerie 1. Noccoli, Druinnae, or Jehalli ? 2. Krazko, Efferon, or Ghunta ? 1 Jan 01 2007 12:10 am #8slaymesoftly LOL - no you aren't. I just thought it was funny. Anyway, you've got an excuse, you've been sick - how goes the plague? All gone, I hope! 1 I'm kinda lazy. I decided what area of the world they come from and use this name generator. http://www.seventhsanctum.com/gens/namer.html 1 Jan 01 2007 07:00 am #11Guest Yup, I knew that was Weyrwolfen right away! Good answers. Creating names is hard. I usually just alter existing fantasy names I know. CM Jan 01 2007 05:28 pm #12weyrwolfen Jeez. I really am that predictable... From now on, all my demons will be named after Ford truck models. 1 | |||
