Good Willow/Evil Willow?

Oct 08 2009 07:40 pm   #1LisFayte

I have been reading a lot of fics lately that feature Evil Willow, and now the comics features an Evil Willow (again) so I did a poll on my LJ a few months ago. I would love to hear what the Writers and Readers here think.

As a writer, which do you prefer to write?
Evil black veiny Willow
Supportive, sweet best friend Willow
Uber nerdy good Willow
Judgmental Willow
Goddess Willow (as in Chosen)
Vamp Willow

As a reader, which do you prefer to read?
Evil black veiny Willow
Supportive, sweet best friend Willow
Uber nerdy good Willow
Judgmental Willow
Goddess Willow (as in Chosen)
Vamp Willow

I think I remember taking that poll.  Well, I'm not a fan of evil Willow, so veiny and vamp is out.  I like the supportive best friend, and nerdy Willow.  That's what I would prefer to read and write.

<--just wanted to point out that Black veiny Willow is also Willow :P

Since any post "Chosen" fics I've written have been about Ats and not BtVS...

I like to write Willow (well, when I write Willow), not as a vampire or pumped up on crack magic.  Just Willow, which to me, includes her being at times supportive, uber nerdy, sweet bff, and judgmental.  All depends on the situation :)

I think that with Willow, she is one of those characters that can work is many ways - what is important is how the character and her actions are founded in the work.  Willow can be a great villain or a great friend or magical power as long as the work firmly supports the action.

I've only written nerdy, supportive friend Willow mostly because she's just an adjunct to the real Spuffy action.  Think I prefer to read about Evil Willow and if I really wanted to write about Willow, she'd probably be evil or Vamp Willow or at least a little bit wicked.  Really hated the slurping over Tara Willow.  Ew.

Willow is all of that, and that's why I love her. She's complex. But dark-haired, scary, grieving Willow is less interesting to write. I like her on a normal day.
