BSV Forum - General - The Bloodshedpub The Way Back Machine Listing Think it would be good to start a Site Links thread - with all the wonderful stories and writers that are being lost from The Buffyverse, Angel and all the Whedonverse - a resource links list of your favorite writers and archive sites would be an important resource for our group - PLEASE help develop this listing - post the links to writers who are no longer active but whose sites are still up - or links for the sites that are no longer active - also for sites that you think might soon become inactive. Since this list is not a new archive, only a WBM access resource, I think it is fine to lists the links. With so many FF writers and archive sites being lost, this links list will be an important resource for everyone and for keeping the Buffyverse, Angelverse and all the Joss Whedon FF works accessible. Great idea nmcil! It breaks my heart to see how many great stories have been lost. I urge those of you who have yours posted to leave them "up" even if you stop writing in the Buffy/Angelverse. Here is the very first Spuffy site I ever found--many, many years ago. It was my introduction to the Jossverse fanfiction concept. If you want old, old stories that can't be found anywhere else, try Hilary's site. I'm just glad she hasn't taken it down. (Drop her a line and let her know you appreciate it being left up.) Jan 21 2010 10:51 pm #7Cordykitten I collected some GeoCities' links and Alternatives (haven't add the WaybackMachine links yet) @ cordykitten.livejournal.com/308627.html when the GeoCities Sites vanished. Fair warning, not all the stories have been archived w/ the Wayback Machine, so not all are available. Also, the old bloodshedverse archive has a few Kari Mouke fics not listed on either of the links already provided by myself or LisFayte. I would just like to second this please? And finally, for those of you that like spuffy fantasy stories: Spuffy Fantasy Archives: web.archive.org/web/20031013050312/http://www.spuffyfantasy.com/ You know, I think it's wonderful that Kari is so well-remembered and appreciated. However, as someone who for most of my life as a ff writer had to keep it very separate from my RL for work-related reasons, I'm entirely sympathetic to someone who has pulled all her stories down. If I remember correctly, Kari's reason was also work-related. She was going to work as an elementary school teacher if I'm remembering it right. Anyway, whatever her reason for wanting them removed, I think we should honor it. Authors have different reasons for pulling things down: wanting to or becoming published authors of original fic who do not want their early attempts being viewed by new readers; having taken some of their fan fic stories and reworked them into something publishable - which they wouldn't be if there were a facisimle available for free on the web; to having taken a new job where being "outed" as a writer of fan fic (or, let's face it, vampire porn) could be an excuse for being fired, to just having improved so much to the point that they'd rather not have their early works out there. Granted, there is never really anything that is actually gone from the web. But just because we CAN find something, doesn't mean we SHOULD. Just something for everyone to think about when you're trying really hard to find something the creator of it has taken great pains to hide. I am not a minion of Evil... I am upper management. I have a quick question, much in the spirit of this thread, if not quite the letter. About a decade ago I remember reading--two or three times, at least--a fine BtVS site that had two finished novella arcs by its site owner/author, and an incomplete third. As I recall, there were the usual tribulations where Spike wasn't trusted by Buffy or the Scoobies, while Darla and Dracula schemed to bring back the Master. They actually got Heinrich Nest, at first; and in some fine plotting, Nest proved to be a vampire hunter who was casting a spell to destroy them all before a vampire (Darla, I think), drank him down, and the Master showed up. She also nearly killed Giles, at the end. Does any of this sound familiar? I'm thinking that with the advent oif Wayback, I'd like to find it again, but that's impossible to do without knowing what I'm looking for. I think that if you can find a story with the WBM - that's fine - people don't use the WBM unless the really want to read the work. Taking any works without the permission from the writer for distribution is absolutely not okay. I don't think a writer, especially a very popular ff writer would take their work down without a good reason. Lucky for all the Spuff and FF fans, there are some outstanding new writers active today and there are the wonderful earlier writers, like slaymesoftly, who continue to produce outstanding works for their readers to enjoy. Even after all these years, I still love to read Spuffy and to create graphics and art based on the Buffyverse. I think that if you can find a story with the WBM - that's fine - people don't use the WBM unless the really want to read the work. Taking any works without the permission from the writer for distribution is absolutely not okay. I don't think a writer, especially a very popular ff writer would take their work down without a good reason. A lot of people move on, but I think it's a shame when good work is lost to view. Just my opinion, mind. Some sites are gone now, and the WBM does us a service by making it available, again. If I could, I'd ask for permission from a given writer to read their work using the Machine, but often the addresses are gone. Lucky for all the Spuff and FF fans, there are some outstanding new writers active today and there are the wonderful earlier writers, like slaymesoftly, who continue to produce outstanding works for their readers to enjoy. No question, there. I've just got an archivist's mind (or heart) set. When I read, or view, or hear something I really enjoy, I'd like it to be preserved for others to derive the same pleasure. :) That's the way I feel about the works of the early ff writer Ariane - if it were not for the WBM - those works would be lost to the newer fans of Buffy and the FF readers - I just keep hoping that when I go back to read her works - that they are still available with the WBM.
