Just Wondering...........

Feb 07 2007 04:52 am   #1LadyYashka

Here are the facts:

1.) Spike's chip prevented him from harming humans.

2.) Ben was human.

3.) Glory was a hell god.

4.) Glory was trapped inside Ben.

Now the question is why do so many fic writers think that Spike's chip prevent him from hurting Ben?

Ben was human yes, but he had a hell god trapped inside of him. They regularly morphed from one person to the other. Since Spike's chip stopped him from hurting humans, but not demons or half demons, wouldn't that mean that Spike could have killed Ben without the chip being set off? Wouldn't having Glory trapped inside of him make Ben something other than human?

I was reading a story that mentioned this in passing and it made me wonder why so many people think Spike couldn't hurt Ben because of his chip. Since I've been wondering about this for awhile now I thought this would be the best place to ask.  :D

Personally, I think Spike would have been able to hurt Ben.

What do you guys think? Anyone?

I think I read a fic or maybe I had a dream about it, not sure now, lol. Where Spike killed Glory when she switched from Ben to herself. He couldn't harm Ben but he could harm Glory. But that is a good point. I gues I've always looked at it as Ben was the host, and human, because placing Glory inside a a full human would weaken her powers. Even when she took over she wasn't at full power as if she were free of her human host.

So Ben was still human, unultered but Glory suffered from being  inside of him. (did that make sense?)

It does make sense, GB. And pretty much is what I would guess was the canon situation.  Ben was a real human man, Glory just chose to inhabit his body for whatever reason (I forget if they ever said why she had to be Ben part of the time - maybe to anchor her to this world?).

This is Miss. Onyx

I always assumed that Glory was actually stuck between dimensions most of the time, and that she needed the Key in order to anchor herself permanently, as well as to control the ability to travel from one dimension to another.

Ben may have been like a catalyst or something that she chose for one reason or another to enter this world (where she could find the Key) but that would still proably make him very human, just kind of possessed.

Again, I could have read this in a fic. I think Glory was bannished to this world by her brothers. All three of them ruled their Hell deminsion, she was the Beast, I forget what they were. But anywho, she got to powerful and wanted to destroy them so they put her here, and placed her in the body of a new born baby. Which was Ben. Again not sure if that was canon or fanon.

Close GB.  Glory was banished to this world by the other gods in her dimension.  I don't think that cannon said that they were her brothers.  Glory became too powerful, so they trapper her in the body of a human (i.e., Ben).  Glory found a way (don't remember exactly how) to take over the body of her host (again, Ben), which is how she was able to affect this world.  She sucked the minds of humans in order to prevent loosing her own mind.

Spike was able to hurt Glory-though quite ineffectively--when the Scoobies attacked her in the hospital.  They do not discuss it in the canon, but I don't think that he would have been able to harm Ben.  Spike's chip worked
on humans, so I would guess that his chip would work on the host's body in it's human state.  I'm sure that if Spike could have harmed Ben in the canon, then he would have in order to save Buffy and Dawn from Glory :-)
