I'm just wondering who the top five characters people love the most in ATS and BTVS besides Spike and Buffy are. And also the top five characters people dislike the most.

Characters I dislike (i.e. want to fastforward when they are on): The potentials (Kennedy being in a class of dislike all her own), Eve.

Likes? Okay: Angelus, Illyria, Wes (post cut throat), and Anya.  Okay, that's four... tie between Giles and Xander.  Honorable mention: William, for being so adorable beyond words... Darla for being kick ass and original for using guns, and to Lilah Morgan (it appears I have a thing for evil). 

Dislikes: Huge tie on vomit inducing levels are between Riley and Kennedy, Rona, Maggie Walsh, and Dawn at times with the immature attidude and all of the screaming...Oh yeah, Eve and Connor were two annoying bitches too.

The characters I like are:

Anya - I love a woman who you could have a truly interesting 'no punshes pulled' conversation with. With anya i could discuss all from Retail to Rear end, and it would be new each time, because she rediculously honest and refreshing. Top friend material in my opinion. You WANT this woman at your party/hen/baby shower.. no You NEED her there.

Dru - I hate her for being so good with Spike, their lovely together... in their own way. She needs to be in this list cose shes SO FUNNY!! sometimes she cracks me up so much...

Andrew - Because id love to strangle him a lot, but he was important to the dynamics since the bounce went out of xanders character (understandably) i love andrew the annoying little shit

Dana (the deranged slayer) - I like her, simple as.

The Decoys - Becose man, i was worried there for a while but one of them  made my day in the end.... thank god

The Con's... no perticular order

Xan - I cant take the racism, he is such a seethrough character and his behaviour is too much to love beyond the pet peeves.

Ben - Urg! whats with buffy and men leading dubble lives/identities! to think of it only Pike was just Pike. One turned out to be gay? ones a tin soldier, vampire, half mad goddess... ai ai ai. Well i suppose Spike never hid his 'other self' from her

Potentials  Dawn  Initiative gang - I dont think i have to elaborate on these

Wow, really DoS?  Mayor Wilkins???  What a great character!  I mean, I wouldn't want to hang out with 'im or anything, but still snappy-as-all-hell!

Maybe I should have mentioned that my list was in no particular order.

1- Xander Harris: I used to dislike him, then I discovered it was just fanficion that made him into a monster. Canon Xander is a wonderful if flawed young man. Especially in season seven.

2- Rupert Giles: Who can hate Giles? Forget Pod Giles in season seven, Giles was always supportive of Buffy even though he hates Spike.

3- Dawn Summers: She's smart and likes Spike.

4- Wesley W Price: Hot Wesley in season five is all I can think of.

5- Faith: She was too messed up and that made her twice interesing.

Characters I dislike:

1- Potentials: All I can think of I rather watch more Scoobies than boring brats.

2- Eve: Boring

3- Kate: Boring

Also dislike milktoast Angel from early BtVS although DO like him in LA after he moved and started to grow....love Angelus on either show.

Call me a rebel but I couldn't keep to to only 5 each! 

ITA LB....The Mayor is a hoot and half my reason for the Faith love I have even if they didn't make the cut

I love every character on these shows because they are rich and multi layered and so very easy to play with.

why is noone putting warren as there number 1 dislike riley wasn't that bad

I think it's because they didn't enjoy Riley's character, while Warren gave a very good plot even though he was an asshole. I don't hate Riley, I think he was a nice guy, I actually wished that Buffy returned his feelings. He had sacrificed so much for her until he became nothing, which he didn't handle very well.
