Today, our domain name expired again just like it did a year ago (for the same reason, the contract with the host expired). Back then, after the contract/account had been reactivated, I tried to transfer the domain name to a different host, alas, without success.

The first problem with that was the communication with the old host (Globat.com), who, despite my changing the contact information in all their forms to my email address, continued to send all their replies to questions I asked to Bloodshedbaby. Not only that, but they would not even reply to emails sent from my address. Communicating via forward by a third person is nearly impossible, especially when you remember that a normal person will delete unwanted emails as spam - but no, BSB was supposed to not only check whether she saw value in an email, but also whether I might need/want it? Something like that is doomed from the beginning.

The next problem was that in order to request a domain name transfer, you need a so called "authorization code", which you should be able to get from the current host. When I asked where to find that code, Globat claimed that it isn't needed for .com domains. That's quite simply wrong, every registrar and host I tried requires that code, you can't even send the form off without it. Several requests that Globat please give me that code went unanswered.

So here we are again.

I emailed Globat earlier in the hope that they will at least tell me when I can hope to register the domain name now that the account with them has expired. (Not holding my breath on that one though.)

I also contacted the registrar eNom directly, explained my problem and asked if it is possible for them to handle the transfer without me having to deal with Globat again. At first they tried to redirect me to Globat, but I believe that was an automatic response upon seeing that I had a question regarding a domain name registered via Globat. I explained the authorization code problem again, and in their latest reply (a few minutes ago), was told that the issue has been forwarded to their costumer-care department.

I'll keep you up to date on what's happening.

Well twice is a deal burner. Hope you have better luck transferring to a more user friendly web host.

Ooh, looking good. eNom sent me an authorization code, and I requested a transfer to the host I'm using for my diabola.net domain (still had one additional domain free). Dammit though, should have thought of going directly to eNom long ago instead of squabbeling with Globat all this time.

Let's hope it works out this time.

Transfer is underway.

Before the transfer could be started, the URL had to be reactivated, so it is possible that it will work for a while before being down again. When it stops working again, that will be because it is being moved to the new registrar - shortly after that I'll be able to access it via the new host, and edit the nameservers. Once that's done everything should be fine.
