There was a small silence.
“Who doesn’t?”
and
“I’ve been used all my life. No big.”
“Well, I’m not gonna be. And I’m not going to use you either.”
Something shifted behind his eyes and he stared at her.
Aha! Now the student is the teacher! This was a great pivotal chapter. Joyce is (more or less) up to speed, Buffy has graduated and even had a bit of a post-grad make-out session. Plus, even Spike is having his eyes opened, and they were pretty open before.

Such fun... You've woven a lovely "new" world sans Angel and your take on Spike is perfection. He's not a fluffy bunny or some comic relief. No he's a Master vampire who's never had anyone give a damn about using him. Nice to think Buffy could show him there is more to "life" or "unlife" then mere existence.

Oh, thank you! I'm so glad you're liking this! I wanted to contrast Spike's methods with Angel's in canon, show how much more effective he would be at his most evil than Angel at his most good. :D It takes a lot of toughness and smarts to survive 120 years. The story is completed, except for cleanup, and I hope you like the rest of it!
