Why am I still reading this at five in the morning? Oh yeah, because I'm obsessed.

In my head, all I can think is a quiet little "this is too easy, this is too easy, this is too easy."

And then it hit me--he hasn't un-vamped yet.  Not once.  And in Buffy's dream, she saw three Spikes--the demon AND the man combined into the Spike she knew.

Here's my prediction: She's going to get him out . . . and she's going to have saved HALF of Spike.  His demon half.

Wow, what a great chapter! The escape managed to be mundane, suspenseful, and funny all at once. Spike's various reactions to the bear were hilarious, though I agree with him that a bear that size, and that strong, being so sentient really is terrifying. It seems to like Spike and Buffy, so I wonder if it was treated badly by its other riders or if it might turn on them if somebody it likes more shows up--like Jack Frost. On the other hand, I'm finding the bear so much fun that I'm getting invested in it, and in Buffy really 'freeing' it later--so, because the basis of this fic is Joss Whedon's world, it makes me worry that we learn to love the bear just so it will have more impact when it's brutally killed trying to defend Buffy or something. *tear*

Around the light-hearted parts of the chapter, Buffy's and Spike's serious words about each other manage to fit in seamlessly. I loved Buffy's impromptu speech to Spike, and her admittance that he might regret letting her read his entire journal later. (Did anybody else have a flashback to that movie "You've Got Mail" when Buffy said that she wanted her mysterious friend to be Spike?)

I really liked the almost-kiss, and how natural it was for Buffy and Spike to be wrapped around each other for hours while reading the bear. That Buffy didn't even notice Spike was still in gameface says a lot, though I'm starting to wonder if that implies more than a choice to be wearing fangs on Spike's part. Even if Louhi didn't do something to him, after so long being tortured in a hellish dimension, maybe he changed something within himself. At least he no longer thinks Buffy is a dream.

Wonderful chapter, can't wait to read more!

Hahah they stole the polar bear! Even better, the polar bear loves Spike! You some how manage to make a mundane task, such as riding a polar bear across an empty plain, interesting. It doesn't drag on and on. It's wonderful. I can hardly wait to see what happens next! I think Buffy should keep "Pooh Bear" he might come in handy in Sunnyhell.

Great character voices and I adore the POV of this.  Thanks so much for this.

That was a fun chapter with a side of sweetness! I hope it's not going to be too dark in the following chapters - I want some corniness pretty please! ;)
