Nope, Xander was never that good at acting and I believe he would have just staked Spike if it had been him. I DO hope he makes further jackass comments like the "retard" one and gets his butt handed to him by Spikes ladies though! (Including Anya...snicker).

Naturally I am all for the serious butt thrashing that is in store for Finn.

Glad Angel will be a real help (and he'll HAVE to "get it" about Spuffy if he sticks around so that will be neat too).

I suspect you will have further perils and dangers aplenty before we see proper justice though and we wouldn't have you write any other way but the splendid way you do!

Okay, it's seems pretty obvious now that Angel is not the villian, so I'm leaning more and more towards it being Riley. I think Xander might lash out in anger at Spike, but as he pointed out, I don't think he's into torture. Xander would just stake him in a blind fury and then hope that Buffy would never find out the truth. Riley, on the other hand, seemed to be quite comfortable with the so-called "experiments" that were routinely done by the initiative. I don't think handing out a bit of torture would cause him to so much as bat an eyelash. Then again, you may fool us all by having the villian be some shadowy figure from Spike's past and not one of these guys at all. Now wouldn't that be evil?

I'd already eliminated Angel, but it's nice to have it confirmed since Spike made a distinction between Angel's voice and his torturer's voice. 99% it's Xander.

Well - my first thought was how I'm teeribly relieved Angel wasn't the one who had Spike. But my second thought was 'wait, isn't he the one who shot himin the first place?' Either way, as far I can tell it wasn't Angel's voice he was so freaked out about - which is good! I love how you brought the Childe/Sire bon tho - it's true that Spike's demon would automatically react to his Sire. I hope to hear more about that.

Time to hang Xander and Riley up by their toes until someone talks. Not that I really think it was Xander. The gunshot, maybe....but not the torture. He's just not that kind of person, and definitely not that good of an actor. Riley, however, has been acting majorly suspicious, and he's used to keeping secrets.

I'm glad Angel got through to Buffy. Oooo, I'd love to have had Anya there, to sense things. An astute Vengeance Demon would really have been able to pick up some vibes here. Really nice seeing Angel finally take responsibiity for his family. I always saw Angelus as one who'd do anything to his family that he wanted, but wouldn't let outsiders do the same. The "nobody insults my Mama but me" kind of thing.

And yay for Spike connecting Dawn with Dawn!

This is easy to figure out, although it is sort of cruel. Take each suspect individually before Spike, and see who "rings his bell." My guess is...X marks the spot- which is what I thought originally.

I knew it wasn't Angel! Now Riley or Xander...hmmmm can't we just let Spike eat them both and save everyone all of the trouble? No? Drat....oh well. Wonderful update. I can't wait to see how this conversation is going to go. =)

Well, no it wasn't angel and for that I am glad because Spike will need his grandsire eventually. Xander too doesn't seem to be the type either and yeah, he would probably just stake Spike. Riley is all that is left and who knows really, how long he has truly been in town. This just keeps getting better and better. You rule Dreams, you rule! I felt awful when Spike knelt before Angel, that was just wrong. And poor, poor Spike, having to be confronted by his captor so soon. I just hope they find out who it is soon.
My guess is Riley (although it might be Xander. He said he would just have staked him, but that might have been to throw them off his scent.) Argh, I'm confusing myself with this. Please tell us who it is soon, so they can torture him, make him pay for doing that to Spike.

OMG, I totally hate Xander right now, calling Spike a retard, grrr. But I totally enjoyed this chapter, and am very please we got a look at Spike's POV too. Can't wait for more, looking foward to Buffy's talk with the three men. And I wonder who long the one who did this to Spike will be able to lie and trick Buffy. Wonders if Angel will pick up on it, since he has super smell. I'm sure Spike's scent is still on Riley or Xander.

Okay so the bad guy isn't Angel-although he is an a** for ignoring Spike's suffering for so long- You did have me worried for a few paragraphs there-I really don't know why I don't want Angel to be the bad guy. I must be coming down with something. I usually love it.- Anyway, for now I'm going with Riley, just cause it would suck for everyone if it were Xander.

Well, at least we know it's not Angel, and it IS one of the other two.
I'm still hoping that it's Riley, but at this point I have no real idea who the culprit is.
It's truly a mark of how great your writing is in this piece that you have gone on for so long without giving us a definitive clue. I keep going back and rereading the chapters to see what I might have missed, and I come up just as confused as when I started. I imagine that when we DO finally find out who did it, the clues will all be there, and I'll say "AAH! How did I not know?!"
The only thing I can think of is to wish for Anya to have vengeance on whoever did it. I figure the magic would know, and when whoever it is keels over or whatever, everyone would know who it is.
Back to reread this chapter and see if you slipped anything in that I should be seeing...

I'm hoping it's Xander, just because Riley as the evil, psycho torturer has been done a lot in fandom. Plus, the emotional resonance of Xander being the torturer is greater for Buffy than if it were Riley. Yes, I am thinking about this story that much. :)

Good to have my thoughts confirmed that it wasn't Angel that did that to him, but I'm still unsure which of the two others it was. Buffy really needs to keep her guard up and not let anyone get to close, because clearly Spike is panicked by something. Interesting that Angel's demon came to the fore when he felt his claim on Spike was being challenged, guess there is some genuine feelings there after all. How heartbreaking is Spike's desire to please her, and to subjegate himself to both Buffy and Angel as long as it keeps him from his tormentor

UGH great story heartbreaking but great. His tormentor is Xander, I've thought so since the start. If it is not him then I'm betting you'll blow our minds and make it Giles.

I love the story. So much that I'm reviewing. I'm a horrible person I never take the time to review. But, I love it.

I like how you let us see this story from both perspectives. I like to see how Spike is feeling and thinking and trying so hard to understand everything.

Glad it wasn't Angel. I'm actually really hoping that he can get some good vengeance for Spike. I'd love to see him be all protective-sire. And Buffy still hasn't REALLY taken off her blinders, of the 3 men in the room, it didn't even seem to cross her mind that Xander and Riley were potential perpetrators. I still think it's Xander. Yeah, Riley's got the cruel streak, but Xander's a coward, and what was done was a coward's game. Can't wait for the next update.
