This is just so beautifully written, hon. You play the characters emotions off one another perfectly. Giles and Angel are being used perfectly in the story (and I look forward to Anya reentering...wonder if SHE already had Xander pegged?).

I'm just curious--where's Anya been? I don't know what, if anything Buffy will do, but I think if Angel and Anya are turned loose on Xander...problem solved.

I'm finally all caught up now. I'm so glad that Buffy and Dawn are at least a little closer to admitting it was Xander. I realize that they don't want to believe it because he is their friend. But when all the evidence points to the opposite and their only reason for not suspecting him was that "its *Xander*" was very irritating. Definite promise there. Can't wait for more.

Buffy is actually coming around to believing that Xander is guilty pretty fast considering her track record: Dawn shoplifting, Willow addicted to magic, Riley feeling insecure, realizing that she loves Spike...

Is Buffy finally ready to acknowledge the apparent reality or she still not ready? This being in Buffy's character is very well done.

I'm kinda surprised Giles didn't hop on the bandwagon. I mean, he is the only one who knows that Xander lied about remembering being all hyena-boy. Still, this story rocks--every chapter just keeps getting better and more tense. Plus, I'm loving that Buffy kinda wanted it to be Riley.

Please for the love of all that is holy open your eyes Buffy and realize what all this means! I'm thinking Angel is going to be able to convince her, or will take care of Xander without her blessing after seeing how upset Spike is. How much did I love the idea of him being fascinated by the SPringer show because of the violence and the fact that it was removed from himself. Not to mention how much food he ate after being coaxed by Dawn. it's amazing how much he's progressing

This story is so well done, particularly the characterization (as I've said before) that when something _doesn't_ seem quite "right" it really stands out.
Now that we know who it is, I'm really noticing stuff I missed before. You have created a classic mystery story - lots of clues right in front of us, engaging storyline, great characters. I'm looking forward to the reveal - not just because Xander needs to be confronted, but because I can't wait to see how you do it! It's sure to be a great read!

As for CA weather, back in '99, 45-50 degree nights stuck around until almost June, in SoCal! You'll frequently see SoCal-ers in heavy coats if it's 60 at night, just because we're so used to our 80-90 degree days. If it's below 70, people have jackets.

Very tense and intriguing chapter. The only thing I want to point out (and please don't take this as a criticism of you wonderful story) is that "blonde" is the feminine form of the word. Spike would be "blond"

I have been playing catchup and I am so glad that Spike had his guard down enough to let this little slip happen. I know he will try to play it off but there is no way his running out of the room can be covered up. I just hope that Xander knows he is not going to get way with this. Just glad that Buffy was trying to get through to him first and that it seems as if Angel has his back.

I'm glad Angel has figured out he has to be patient with her. Normally, he'd just push his way through to getting done what he thought needed to be, but with Buffy, it'd backfire big time...she'd dig her heels in and push him away for good, just for the hell of it.

Your jealousy has to be set aside, Buffy. Angel is the best for helping Spike from the vampire perspective. None of you know how to teach him to be one, and Dawn's the only one who wouldn't be acting with at least a slight prejudice towards that side of him. We all know that you and Giles would rather raise a human that drinks blood, than a vampire in master of all his abilities. She still gets grossed out by the vampire traits. (Which is silly, since you wouldn't scold a dog for leading with *its* nose.)

So, how are they going to handle this meeting, hmm? Angel's having a hard time not being confrontational around Xander. Buffy and Giles are uncomfortable. Dawn should go up after Spike...take Angel, too..so Giles and Buffy can study the boy. Mannerisms take on a new light in the face of different circumstances.

Ow come on Buffy, kick Xander's ass.

OK, Buffy's paddling for shore, albeit reluctantly.
But...where is Willow? I know she isn't really a factor in this story, but shouldn't she have dropped by to visit at some point or another? Not a complaint at all, something that just popped into my brain.
I'm so glad to find out that Dawn doesn't have to go to school - I was wondering how you could have somebody be with Spike all the time. It does seem a bit convenient, with the rather big deal you made about her skipping school when they found him, but...

Really great story. I go onto the internet just to check your updates. I wish Buffy would just let Angel heal Spike as he can. She is letting her jealousy stop Spike's improvements.
