Chapter: Got to Begin Again

Uh oh - is Buffy on a down hill slide into the bottle?
Hmm... might be. Question is - is that better or worse than sex with a vampire you hate?

Aww, I loved that chapter, so sweet and yet so realistic. The scene of Spike pulling the vamp off of Buffy when and the 'I can't watch you die again' comment, should so have been a scene in the show, y'know, if they'd dealt with season 6 better...I love that idea, so true to both their characters at that time.

I like the ending to, although it's sad. It made the scene so in character because just as they start to get a bit closer, Buffy's back to wanting to make all her problems disapearing.

Anyway, I'm rambling again. Just to say love the chapter, love the fic, cannot wait for more!
Thanks so much for the comments... glad you like the story. Buffy's definitely a "two steps forward, one step back" kind of girl, isn't she?

He's trying so hard to help her and she's trying so hard not to be helped. Hopefully he'll win the battle of wills.
I think he's got the edge, because even though she's trying not to be helped, a part of her responds to what he's trying to do.

Yeah, he wants to help her in any way he can but as long as she's coming to him he is. Both are very beautiful songs, love the Piano Man. He cares so much about her. They're both in pain. You've written this beautifully, thanks.
Thanks... I'm a big Billy Joel fan. Spike always gets labelled as a punk, but he strikes me as the kind of guy who'd be into the music of every era. In the flashbacks we've seen on both shows, he always seemed to adapt to whatever time period it was.

Oh, very poignant - loved "I can't watch you die again!" - she'd have had to be dead not to react to that. And I loved her allowing him to soothe and cuddle her. And his resigned acceptance of what she'd really come there for.
Thanks! I think she's definitely reacting to what he said, even if it's a subconscious thing that makes her fight back at the last minute. And it seems natural that she would keep coming back to him - for comfort and for the booze.

Surely Spike can come up with something to replace the alcohol in Buffy's life.
Not that he's exactly the AA poster child, lol! But hopefully it's just a phase that will run its course.

Sweet but sad. I loved them at the start of S6, the gradual friendship that was headed in wonderful directions at a fair clip. This captures that feeling nicely.

Kathleen
Thank you! This fic is definitely meant to build on that friendship.

Just read this in one go. Great work so far, it’s nice to see Buffy and Spike bonding.
Thanks, glad you've enjoyed it!

oh, thats not good...he needs to stop her before she becomes a full-blown alcoholic, because that would be bad for all concerned... :( poor buffy, poor spike, it's all so very sad...and i could just picture the scene you described, when he caught her about to let the vamp kill her...i got chills, love, very intense and powerful..great job :)
Aww, thank you sweetie, what a wonderful compliment! I definitely agree, Spike needs to do something, but when you think about it... that's pretty much how Spike deals with problems too (Lover's Walk...). I think he's getting out of his depth, but he'll do anything he can to save her.
