You mean writer - you threw Buffy over a cliff! A real cliff hanger!
Hee! Come on, how could I resist?

Love the easy banter and growing friendship between Buffy and Spike. Somehow, I think if it had happened like this on the show, things would have been much better for them. Very nice characterization for all the scoobies, too. I love the fact that you don't try to make any one scooby more of a villian than they actually were, you stay true to the way that they were written. Wonderful work, can't believe I hadn't finished this before.
Thanks, TC! I thought it was funny you turned up on VK when all my stuff was already posted here. :) I do try to keep the Scoobies true to the show - I don't really dislike any of them (I know a lot of Spuffy fans have anti-Xander biases), and I like to show all sides of them. Glad you enjoyed the fic!

About time they got with the program and decided to help her. Giles is crazy to think that she could even take on a dragon alone, death wish or not. So happy Spike's there for her as always. Thanks, love this.
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the story!

Boooooo! What a cliffhanger, lol. I'm loving this story, and thanks for the wonderful chapter :D .
My cliffhangers are nothing if not literal... Glad you liked it! :)

WOW action packed goodness. Such a fantastic update. Love how they are all ignoring Giles and his "moment of truth" plan for Buffy. I think he's as wrong as on the show when he decided Buffy needed to assume even more responsibility than she had on her plate so he left her!

But she realized the scars of that night ran deep in him.
I've always thought that his guilt over her jumping from the tower was one reason he let her beat the stuffing out of him over and over when she came back. IMHO he felt he deserved the treatment for "failing" her.

WONDERFUL update!

Kathleen
Thank you, dear, I love hearing from you! I think you're probably right about Spike - his guilt definitely plays a part in the way he reacts to Buffy. Fortunately, this Buffy's not beating him up...

I love the fantasy element of the dragon...plus your flawless blending of dialogue and narrative...plus the humor of lines like "still dead, but no more than usual." Update soon, pretty please?
Thanks so much for the lovely review, Alia! Makes me happy to hear that you like it.

Nice bit of action - I'm sure Buffy's been able to save herself. The Scoobies standing up to Giles is new.
Thanks! I like the idea of conflict between Giles and the Scoobies. He's always been the parent, pretty much unquestioned, but our kids are growing up, and they can question his judgment now. They've done it before individually (Willow comes to mind most prominently), but never as a unified group.

Oh please let her be alright.
Well, since you asked so nicely... :)

Oooooh evil cliffhanger!
I knew it was evil, but I just couldn't resist - it's so literal! How could I *not* leave Buffy dangling off a cliff?

I like Spike's pet advice--sounds like words to live by. This story makes me want to slap Giles. Remembering that timeframe during the show, I really wanted to slap Giles. So, good characterization of someone who is difficult to write well.
Spike's pet advice was totally the reason I got rid of my fire-breathing cat. It just wasn't worth the singed carpets. ;)

oh no!!! i hope she's okay...stupid giles, though i *do* have to admit i see his point...maybe tara and willow will be able to help? great chapter, love, looking forward to more :)
p.s. the way buffy accepted spike's help so easily speaks of how much she's improved with his friendship, shows that at this point, she doesn't really want to die anymore :) great job, love :)
I think Giles does have a point, but he doesn't realize he's put her in a situation she's been in for awhile now. She's been having near-misses on patrol, and sometimes Spike saved her, but mostly she made the decision herself. The problem I think is that Giles thinks this one grand gesture - slaying the dragon - will once and for all prove she wants to live. Whereas it's really a series of decisions, every day, every fight, she has to decide again to live.
