I do not view this as out of character at all. If you are not moved enough to grow after watching someone you know you have some feeling for, and realize you love at the very last second, burn from the inside out...then you are not a true human being. I honestly believe that the shock of seeing Spike die in the Hellmouth would have forced Buffy to realize he truly loved her and truly wanted to be good for her. (excuse my run on sentence) I also believe Buffy would not have said she loved him unless she meant it.
Doing what is right for the sake of love is noble. Love is the most noble reason in the world.
I have read all of your fiction that I have been able to find and you have written nothing that I didn't enjoy. Thanks so much.
I liked the story. Most stories have Buffy getting all angry and then Spike feeling all guilty, yours didn't.
I have to tell you, this is one of my favorite fics! I love Buffy's unwavering certainty and Spike's acceptance of it. You capture their voices so well! Thanks for sharing your talents!
I was thinking of the original film of THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE, where Janet Leigh ditches her fiancee after 1 conversation with Frank Sinatra on the NY-bound train.
