This whole story is beautifully written and intriguing ... The last two lines of this chapter really "got" me.

Really enjoyed it!  I'm not usually one at all for Spru or Fanged Four, or pre-spuffy tales...but this caught my interest.  Me and an author I work with were just discussing where Spike and Dru were during which decades, and in particular we were talking about their adventures together in the 1930's and pre-war Europe.  Looks l like this is late enough to have brownshirts, but then again, early enough to still have them...so pre- or early war years? You seem to have captured the feel for the era well...the period music, newsreels, serials, and radio shows will set the mood every time! i think you're doing a good job so far!  In the last few years i got bit by the bug to research & do WWiI historical re-enactment---and tho' for me most of that is focused a little later & with US troop focus, much reading and study crosses the cultures and countries too in the process---and your fic was just enjoyable as if i was reading a scary fiction contemporary to the time.  I look forward to seeing more of this one, even tho' it's not my usual fare...btw, it's almost as if i can see Spike, Dru, Darla, etc during this time & at this place, and now you have crooning music running thru my brain & I can't get it out! LOL.

I really love this story. The mood, voice and characterizations are wonderful. Lovely, subtle detail in this.

Liking this story alot. Darla and Spike together have some great interactions and you do Drusilla's voice well. But I can't help but feel more is going on than we realize at the moment, and how it will come back later on... ;>)
