I'm a fairly recent convert to Whedonism (meaning within the past year). But the first Buffy I ever saw was "Fool for Love" back in 2000-2001 or so. Before, I hadn't thought much of the show, and was something of a pretentious Trekkie/Xenite/X-Phile/Ringer. But that entire hour, I was riveted, thinking, "Hey, this isn't such a bad show after all." That final scene on the back porch hit me like a punch to the gut, seeing the change in two characters that I didn't even know in the hour previous. Then I was distracted by events in the universes of my other fandoms, and forgot about Buffy, until picking up an analysis on modern fictional women warriors. I'm hooked. Spike and Buffy are the most complex fictional characters I've met since Javert and Jean Valjean.
